Cave ab lectore!

The "dream linguist" knows that comprehension always exceeds production and that it is therefore dangerous to evaluate the capacity of an individual for the former based on the latter. But still, the two are related.

When dealing with someone whose form of expression and use of words is painfully flawed, one naturally has to wonder about the reliability of any pronouncements based on their reading of a text.

Let he who can read do so!

Indeed. I have received something of a warning from Byron to essentialy back off of my agressiveness on the subject. So I guess its time to tone down the passion a bit. I certainly don't want to end up in the same category as TAZ (ie. obnoxious). And, in the spirit of being open minded, will be doing a VERY thorough search of Hunters to attempt to ascertain the "subtle" hint on the M and D issue. I'll let you know what is revealed (don't hold your breath :) )

TAZ is in a category all his own. (As he continues to prove.) Don't worry, no one with a modicum of mind will ever lump you in with him. :)

You get under his skin (naturally!), and I think its quite amusing. I try to bait him into some heated discussions on occasion, but he is typically only willing to throw one volley and then he moves on. With you, however, he can't resist the urge to argue ad nauseum. i really would like to see him stick the rules of engagment and argue a specific point (or I guess "inconsistency") without having to resort back to his ad hominem attacks, and/or "i talked to the others" approach. The bottom line is, IMHO, he just isn't on the same level of Dune fandom that many of us are......

I'm pretty well convinced now that if he could argue the points, he would. He can't, so he feints and counters with the personal attacks. No, not on the same level at all, in many different senses. (But he at least is a TRUE Dune fan!)

Really, there is no defense for the Leto-Jessica meeting inconsistency. If there were, they'd have put IT in the FAQ, no?

As for Damnius and Erasmart, we still only have half of the book, so it's kinda pointless worrying over their explanation until we actually have it. I have a feeling it's going to be a "doosey".

Personally (and honestly), I think this latest message through Byron was a bit of a cop-out. "There's a hint, but it's subtle." When have they ever been subtle?! (And the comment about over-writing was extremely disingenuous. Come on, that's not what people mean at all. Is it?)

Anyway, if you have time, pop over by MySpace and have a look in the "friends' comments" section of Kevin's page. See if you can spot TAZ there. (Hint, the user name is different but still self-aggrandizing. The language of the comment is a dead giveaway, though. Especially if you cross-ref those on Konman's page.)
