Cold turkey

Makes great sandwiches but a crappy way to beat an addiction.

Any suggestions?

don't quit?

how about subsititute with something equally pleasurable?

As a hedonist, I like to move from one pleasure to another....

Good advice, in principle.

The problem was...that little pleasure was involved. I wasn't enjoying it. Substituting "something equally pleasurable" would constitute a form of masochism!

But joking aside, I know what you mean. And in fact I've spent the evening working on my map-to-texture application. (Which will, by the way, have possible application beyond just the Arrakis texture, since I imagine Celestia is something I will continue to be interested in AND ENJOY for some time to come.)

Programming is something I really enjoy. Whether it's working on these little utility apps for fun or for research or for my website or the one at university, whether using Objective-C or PHP/Javascript/Perl. The "thinking machines" may still be dumber than rocks, but their behavior and reactions are far more tractable than those of the "carbon units" infesting the planet.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Next time don't be a stranger! :)

Well, if you weren't enjoying it in the first place, and you're still addicted, I suppose that too consistutes a form of masochism!

Its like when I quit smoking, I just started eating and drinking profusely, which helped for awhile, until I became a fat alcoholic, so I went back to smoking again. Now I'm a fat alcoholic that likes to smoke too much :)

I should have stuck with the first option DON'T QUIT!! :)
